There are two ways to look at the pandemic and the current times: complain that everything is at a standstill or make something happen. Sepultura found themselves without a tour to promote "Quadra", released in February 2020. So, to ease the boredom and keep in touch with the fans and with each other, the band decided to make remote videos and invite musicians to join them, creating weekly appointments: "SepulQuarta".
The album of the same name gathers 15 tracks coming from these sessions and the first three lay the foundations: 'Territory' ("Chaos A.D. ") with Dave Ellefson (ex-Megadeth), 'Cut Throat' ("Roots") with Scott Ian (Anthrax) and 'Sepulnation' ("Nation") with Danko Jones, that is to say three times around the moshpit without touching the edges, and a selection which, if it covers the Cavalera period, doesn't forget the records created after the departure of its leader in 1996.
We also meet Devin Townsend, Rafael Bittencourt (Angra) or Matthew K. Heafy (Trivium), among others, on tracks selected from the whole discography of the Brazilian quartet, but it's also time to recognize the contribution of the most recent half of the band: Eloy Casagrande celebrates his first decade behind the drums of the combo and can boast of being one of the best current drummers, as for Derrick Green, he has the heavy task of being the "new kid on the block" and of succeeding Max Cavalera since...1997.
"SepulQuarta" allows them to shine within this noisy grave that never ends to be dug and gives the opportunity to (re-)discover a repertoire that, if it is not particularly shaken up here, remains a must in the metallic world.
The roots have not finished extending.
