Alluvial is a technical, progressive and atmospheric death band from the United States that welcomed Keith Merrow (Conquering Dystopia) in its first album ("The Deep Longing for Annihilation"). For this second album, Alluvial has added Kevin Muller (vocals). The biggest change on "Sarcoma" is the musical direction, which intensifies the music and extends it beyond a simple guitar exercise.

"Sarcoma" relies on a balance of harmony, brutal power and technique. Melodies are scattered here and there to spice up the tracks. The melodic side is brought by the clear and deep vocal of the very beautiful introduction of '40 Stories'. The often strange harmonies ('The Putrid Sunrise') leave a feeling of trouble and the solitary guitar builds enchanting melodies: 'Sugar Paper' with its vibrato-laden phrases, 'Sleepers Become Giants' with its limpid lines. Finally, on 'Zero', an instrumental track, the band reconnects with its past and then transforms it by incorporating industrial sounds and artificial voices.

This balance is not done without a great instrumental mastery and a great dose of technique. The tracks propose multiple variations or oscillations between ternary and binary rhythms underline a breathtaking drumming ('Sugar Paper'). The record releases an energy born from percussive and complex riffs, frantic soli and some angry blasts.

By changing direction, Alluvial has gained in efficiency and coherence. With this album, the band proposes a compact work and perhaps more accessible than an "all instrumental". "Sarcoma" is thus a quality record, which even if it doesn't allow the band to reinvent itself, offers enough interesting elements - bitter fury and great subtlety - to charm durably.

BRAINSTORM: Wall Of Skulls (2021)
HEAVY METAL - "Wall Of Skulls" effectively mixes purely Germanic heavy with some very catchy melodic aspects.
KAYAK: Out Of This World (2021)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Without reaching the quality of "Seventeen", "Out of This World" remains a very recommendable pop and progressive album!
