Hailing from the north of France, The Losts, created in 2010, has already released an EP, a first album and made a lot of concerts in its region and in Belgium and the Netherlands. Five years after "Of Shades & Deadlands", the band is back with "Mystery Of Depths" cut in an old-fashioned heavy thrash. The disc is a concept around the lost ones who rub shoulders with humanity to reveal its defects and its evils.
Carried by a splendid cover, signed by Chadwick St John who worked for Darkthrone, the album allows to find an independent spirit far from the fashions with an intact freshness. We enjoy heavy epic tracks close to Manilla Road and with a King Diamond side and some passages worthy of Iced Earth ('Tattoo The Child', 'The Priests Control', 'In The Steam Of Opium', 'Pharaoh's Curse'). A high and lyrical efficient vocals, neat choruses and high level instrumental parts, totally in the epic spirit of the 80's, are the major assets.
The band also has fun mixing old school with various influences. 'Inner Wounds' offers a Megadeth aspect with a thrash that marries perfectly with the epic and lyrical force. With 'Until The End' and 'Mystery Of Depths', the band adds to its recipe a black metal side that sticks to the wall. The mix of atmospheres moves on 'The Sand Of War (May 1940)', a long theatrical track which strikes by its epic, dark and melodic side. The spoken ending, which refers to the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940, adds a huge force.
"Mystery Of Depths" is a remarkable album of old school heavy thrash. The Losts is the heir of the old ones and should delight the amateurs of a timeless sound having kept its original purity.
