After having abandoned the indus metal on their previous album ''The Final Cut'', Kamera Obscura has chosen to travel again on paths they once walked. The group of musicians recovers its old EP project ''Copycat'' in order to give it a second life. For this edition, three guests invite us to this vampire ball: we can see the images of Christopher Lee, the debonair Lord Summerisle from "The Wicker Man", Vincent Price in "The Grand Inquisitor" and a nun from "The Black Narcissus" directed by the tandem Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger. Each of the three images that decorate it refers to a title of the EP. As for the revelry, Kamera Obscura has chosen a rather rich panel of songs: we find Cathedral ('Hopkins The Witchfinder General'), Danzig ('Brand New God'), Killing Joke ('The Beautiful Dead'), Type O Negative ('Christian Woman') and David Bowie ('Cat People/Putting Out Fire').

The first tracks give way to a rather direct metal - the rhythm of the main tracks has the subtlety of a bulldozer. 'Brand New God' proves to be more heavy and asphyxiating than the original while 'Hopking The Witchfinder General' comes out of the same catacombs. Cecile's voice combines power and sensuality. She even has a big vocal challenge with the cover of Killing Joke. If she can't compete with the master Jaz Coleman, on the other hand she manages to place some sensual touches in a rather heavy universe. The peak of the album is reached when the band revisits with brilliance 'Christian Woman' of the late Peter Steele. As A Mortal Coil had done it in its time, we attend a magnificent work of rewriting, the warm voice of Cecile, surrounded by aerial keyboards, invites us to follow her in this journey in the country of the Heavy Melancholy. The album ends with a cover of a David Bowie's song which is a bit more peaceful, a nice way to balance the album by taking an apocalyptic start to better find the light little by little.

In the field of criminology, a copycat is an amateur killer who follows the methods of another killer. The term is perhaps a bit of a misnomer for Kamera Obscura, which has nothing to do with an imitation group and has its own identity. Humble, the group invites us after listening to their pieces to look at the originals or to watch the evoked films.
