It's been over three years since the release of "Red Before Black", a long wait to get back to the death metal mainstay that is Cannibal Corpse. Its guitarist, Pat O'Brien, having ended up in jail, the band hired its producer Erik Rutan, the strong man of Hate Eternal, to replace him for the concerts before integrating him definitively in its line-up. The new guitarist is a virtuoso, and to imagine him in the band's line-up is mouth-watering. The Cannibal Corpse recipe is known and the band has tended to hum in recent years. If he has had a boost with "Red Before Black", we must hope that it will continue with the promisingly titled new album, "Violence Unimagined".
Consisting of eleven tracks, the album is a concentrate of violence that knows how to avoid linearity. 'Murderous Rampage' and 'Inhumane Harvest', carried by Erik Rutan, are powerful and racy in a classy death metal spirit, making us appreciate the vocal shape of a George who belches with intensity and we enjoy the riffs and soli of great class, technical and fast. In this line, 'Follow The Blood' and 'Cerements Of The Flayed' give the spin in a beautiful way. The rage and the force of striking are expressed through tracks of a delightful violence which show a band in full form ('Necrogenic Ressurection', 'Condemnation Contagion', 'Bound And Burned', 'Overtoture'). Certainly classic for the band, these intense titles of death metal are direct and brutal.
One does not get bored for a moment while listening to this huge wall of sound. With "Violence Unimagined", Cannibal Corpse confirms its renewed form and impresses. To have such an energy while defying the passing of time forces the respect. The band seems to be unstoppable and it is to be wished that this will last for a long time.
