"Evolving from a soft and melancholic atmosphere to more raging metallic style, this EP:R is a very nice business card for Sleepyhead Spring."

10 years is a long time! That's how long it took Spleepyhead Spring to deliver its first EP. The project is led by Christopher de Man, multi-instrumentalist from the north of France, who erects post-rock more as an art of living than as a simple musical genre. Among the musicians Christopher surrounds himself with on stage, there is Clementine Barraban who spreads the whole visual universe of the band behind him on stage, an essential part of the artistic arc of Sleepyhead Spring.

The compositions are of great finesse. They evolve slowly from a soft and melancholic atmosphere ('A.VI.O.N') to atmospheric then raging metallic flights ('N∞\infy'), a typical pattern of modern post-rock. Here, the emphasis is on the depth of the ambiences that plunge the listener into the heart of the music. Christopher de Man's music arouses imagination and reverie. Its cinematographic aspects are very present and inevitably call for images that invade the mind when listening to this EP.

So yes, the format is (very) short (24 minutes), the style is outdated and this "EP:R" brings nothing more than the myriad of atmospheric post-rock albums that come out every year. But this one is very well done, unpretentious and offers a visual aspect that is an integral part of the project.

We can't wait for the return of the bands in concert halls, especially Sleepyhead Spring, which offers a global musical and visual experience in which to immerse oneself. But this "EP:R" still has many qualities, starting with a very balanced production, which easily justify the purchase of the object. Given the very strong graphic aspect of the northerners, the acquisition of the vinyl version will be justified for lovers of beautiful musical objects.

TRIBULATION: Where The Gloom Becomes Sound (2021)
DEATH METAL - Carried by a goldsmith's handwriting and carved in funerary marble, "Where The Gloom Becomes Sound" impresses and leaves a deep imprint in the memory, a veritable sum that unravels a vast palette of styles.
OCEANS OF SLUMBER: Oceans Of Slumber (2020)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Oceans Of Slumber still lacks almost nothing to reach the summits of atmospheric progressive metal, a domain where its qualities of composition and interpretation are marvelous.
