Intelligent Music is a Bulgarian music company with a label, recording studio etc., founded by Milen Vrabevski, CEO of a medical research laboratory and catalogued as a philanthropist, with the aim of promoting contemporary Bulgarian culture. Intelligent Music has been producing since the beginning of 2010 a series of projects bringing together big names in FM rock and AOR, giving substance to compositions entirely written (lyrics and music) by the creator of the structure.
Published in 2019, "Sorcery Inside" is the fourth part of the series, and brings together Simon Phillips on drums (Toto), Jesse Siebenberg on guitars (Supertramp), John Payne (Asia), Joseph Williams (Toto) and Carl Sentance (Nazareth) behind the micro. The simple reading of the original groups of these instrumentalists and singers will immediately give the tone of the twelve tracks that make up this opus.
Relatively short, they evolve in fact mostly in a style very close to Toto, whose vocal harmonies ('Night's Calling'), swaying rhythmics, but also many rock passages carried by a sharp rhythm guitar, on which are grafted some solos well felt. If there is also another band to mention in the references of this production, it could be Saga, both in the construction of the songs and in some guitar riffs straight from Ian Crichton's mind ('Life Lingers'). And in spite of the little taste mistake proposed by 'Viva', a kind of hispanic bluette, the whole is to be enjoyed in one go, happily alternating punchy tracks with immediate effects and soothing ballads ('Love', 'Night's Calling').
The high-level performers highlight the eminently well-crafted compositions, whose strength lies in the fact that they manage to be very effective on short formats, without however being satisfied with repetitive verse/chorus structures. To note also the very balanced production which allows to savor all the richness of the orchestrations and the various sound layers.
