Here is John Diva & The Rockets Of Love, back at the end of the year 2020. Adept of an outrageously glamorous look, this German combo with a resolutely provocative attitude had conquered two years ago the nostalgics of the time when Mötley Crüe held the front of the stage. If the freshness and the good mood had seduced us, the very (too) strong tribute to the leading bands of the 80s had however earned him a slight flat. So what does Diva propose to us this time?

Let's start by reassuring the fans, the band has not changed his initial artistic intentions. Once again the Germans offer us joy, good humor, derision (unreasonableness?), energy, friendly radio refrains and clichés. In short, it's sex, drugs & rock'n'roll on every track, and no matter how empty the lyrics are, we're not here for that, it's glam rock, let's not forget it.

This time, you'll have the pleasure to find Skid Row on 'Karmageddon', a ballad with a nice final acceleration, Cinderella with 'Wasted (In Babylon)' and its galvanizing chorus, and Aerosmith on the chorus of 'Drip Drip Baby' which furiously reminds us of Tyler's 'Pink'. But you will hear as well, as on the first opus, Def Leppard on the eponymous title, the verses of 'Drip Drip Baby' and those of the eponymous song, but also Bon Jovi on 'Week End For A Lifetime'. Beyond these profoundly marked references, it is appropriate to complete this approach to the content of the work by specifying that almost all of these pieces could have been interpreted by Steel Panther or Reckless Love, both now successors of Mötley Crüe.

Lovers of glamour, opulence, playfulness and 80's hard rock, this record is made for you. John Diva & The Rockets Of Love continue to invent nothing but at least they give us fun.

OTHER REVIEWS
STEVE HACKETT: Under A Mediterranean Sky (2021)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With its very classical orientation, Steve Hackett's "Under a Mediterranean Sky" will divide: mastery of the acoustic guitar against an orchestral back or overly academic pensum?
CINDY BLACKMAN SANTANA: Give The Drummer Some (2020)
JAZZ - Too long and too rarely inspired, "Give The Drummer Some" is an album to be quickly forgotten, as it doesn't do justice to Cindy Blackman Santana's talent.
