The Holographic Principle" era was a rich one and marked the career of Epica. The Dutch band with the album and the EP that followed showed a band at the top of its art, perfect master of a melodic and symphonic metal that makes the listener travel. After such an artistic peak and already quite a few records, each step becomes harder to tackle. This step is called "Omega" and has the heavy task of confirming the status of the band.

The album is just as ambitious as its predecessors. Approaching the question of the meanders of life and the labyrinths that it brings in the human thought, the album is a paving stone of more than 70 minutes that you have to tame like a big show movie. One finds there the essence of the Epica sound with a subtle balance between force and melody and a very present cinematographic side.

The recipe works perfectly. Many tracks ('Abyss Of Time', 'Seal Of Salomon', 'Gaia'...) offer us a nice patchwork of symphonic metal. Simone shines of thousand fires. She flies in lyrical summits in perfect adequacy with the choirs and a growl which answers her as in a dialogue. The choruses are obvious, the melodies catchy and the riffs and solos are very powerful.

Beside these typical Epica songs, the superb 'Rivers', melancholic and carried by Simone's very pure singing, takes the form of an enchanted parenthesis. And what about 'Kingdom Of Heaven prt3 - The Antediluvian Universe'?, remarkable title of more than thirteen minutes that forms the heart of the album. Powerful, endowed with a catchy melody and a beautiful sensitivity, it allows Simone Simons to show herself both strong and fragile.

"Omega" is not the kind of record that you listen to with an inattentive ear. It requires attention but reveals itself with time as it is often the case. The recipe still works and Epica remains without contest the boss of symphonic metal.
