"On this first eponymous album, Ghøstkid has all the arguments to enchant us. If the originality is somewhat lacking because of a stale formula, the explosive mix of genres is all the more enjoyable."

If Ghøstkid is a newcomer in the industrial metal sphere, on the other hand its members are already known. Sebastian Bieslerrescue of Eskimo Callboy has recruited Stanislas Czywill on bass, (Ressurection Of Hate), Steve Joakim (drums) and Danny Güldener (Ressurection Of Hate) to carry out his new mission. Code name Ghøstkid as you may have guessed under the direction of a staff chaired by Sky Van Hoff (Rammstein, Emigrate).

The first track 'Føøl' doesn't bode well. If the guitars and the rhythmic session take the listener between two fires, the vociferous, angry but long, heavy and artificial vocals leads us to Slipknot. If this track is not musically missed, it is cruelly lacking in originality. Fortunately Ghøstkid will raise his head after this first title. As the group confesses it in its press review and partly on the cover of the album, Ghøstkid shows its teeth while caressing us melodically. Sebastian Biesler has mixed metalcore, pop, metal, indus in his shaker. If he is not the first to make clear vocals / screaming vocals, chaos / calm, light / darkness coexist, we can only approve this successful alchemy. 'You And I' is a perfect illustration of this bipolar tendency, pop and angry metal looking at each other. On the other hand, 'Sharks' and 'Cøld War' are pleasantly the first in a boosted pop and the second in a symphonic pop. These two songs could become hits if today's radio stations could break with their annoying habit of broadcasting only advertising.

Sebastian Biesler proves that his place behind the microphone was not only acquired because of internal dissensions. Throughout the album, he demonstrates his dexterity and flexibility in adopting several styles. The vocals will also be enriched by the intervention of outside guests. Marcus Bischoff, the singer of the melodic deathcore band Heaven Shall Burn, adds his gravelly vocals to the song on 'Supernøva'. Mille Petroza of the no less cult Kreator intervenes on 'Crøwn' but without convincing so much the song resembles the previous one. As a sweet bonus, Ghøstkid offers two versions of 'This Is Not Hollywood', each of them supported by rappers Timi Hendrix and Johnny 3 Tears from Hollywood Undead.

On this first eponymous album, Ghøstkid has all the arguments to enchant us. If the originality is somewhat lacking because of a stale formula, the explosive mix of genres is all the more enjoyable.

OTHER REVIEWS
BULLRUN: Wilderness (2020)
HEAVY METAL - A mix of rock, heavy and thrash metal totally assumed, "Wilderness" once again demonstrates Bullrun's talent for offering an addictive record with tracks tailored for live performance.
MIDNIGHT OIL: The Makarrata Project (2020)
ALTERNATIVE ROCK - More than just a musical work far from what Midnight Oil offered us in the 80's, 'The Makarrata Project' is a militant mini-album intended to support the project of the same name, initiated in 2017, to reconcile the entire Australian people.
