Let's face it, Snap Border had us a bit surprised in 2016 with their debut album, "Alternative Current Box". We were holding there a French band of heavy alternative rock with undeniable know-how and impressive maturity for its young age. So we were looking forward to the sequel. It arrives this year with "Icons", a 5 tracks EP which, like many EPs, is both frustrating by its brevity and stimulating by its content full of promises.
As 'Draw Me The Borders', the last track of "Alternative Current Box", could foreshadow, Snap Border's music has undergone a rather frank inflection towards nu-metal, like the excellent 'Evil-tions' and especially 'Dancing With The Sharks' and its marked Linkin Park influence. Powerful guitars, catchy melodies, no doubt, Snap Border's sense of composition is still as efficient and has not lost any of its seductive power. All the more so as the production is particularly neat and the addition of keyboards on almost all the tracks contributes a lot to the exaltation we feel when listening to "Icons", in addition to Franck Poinsot's always so warm voice.
The great strength of the band is to know how to combine the power of the riffs and the precision of the melodies. This is what makes them a rather unique band on the French alternative rock/metal scene and a serious candidate for export. As much at ease in composing anthems made for live ('Endscape') as in sprinkling their punchy rock with subtle atmospheric passages (the excellent 'Newsfeed Icons'), Snap Border delivers us with "Icons" a neat and coherent EP, testimony of a band sure of itself and its music. It remains to fill all the hopes we place in him with a real second album. - Official website
