For 25 years Hatebreed has been steadily making its way, the American band has built a solid career with integrity. The new opus is called "Weight Of The False Self" and is expected to confirm the band's strength in metal-tinged hardcore. Until now he has been able to vary the pleasures with intelligence avoiding repetition.
But all formulas end up wearing out and one wonders if Hatebreed is going to fall into a routine. Composed of 12 tracks, the opus barely exceeds half an hour and is another angry cry from a committed and rabid band. And the slap is loud, the record is a rifle bullet that hits its target in a flash.

The whole is very homogeneous but not linear. Depending on the tracks, which rarely last more than three minutes, the tone is either hardcore or heavy. At the hardcore level, Hatebreed repeatedly shows that it remains a huge competitor. 'Set It Right', 'Weight Of The False Self', 'Dig Your Way Out' and 'From Gold To Gray' are killings carried by the ferocious vocals of a top Jamey Jasta. There's the typical tone of the genre in the riffs, the chorus forward and the direct side so effective. All this is designed to create intense circle pits at concerts.

In addition Hatebreed also has a metallic side to it, and it sets it on fire. The recipe is known but works. 'Instinctive', 'Let Them All Rot', 'A Stroke Of Red' and 'The Herd Will Scatter' find the perfect balance between the power of hardcore and the heavy, Slayer-like speed on furious accelerations. Finally 'Invoking Dominance' gathers all the qualities of the band. After a catchy melodic beginning, the track turns into an ocean of ferocity that stuns the listener.

"Weight Of The False Self" does not bring anything new certainly but it is not yet the album which will see Hatebreed weakening. Like a wild animal, the American band continues to bite for our greatest pleasure.

LAURI: New World (2011)
OTHERS - With "New World", Lauri Ylönen moves away from the world of The Ramus to offer an exotic and experimental work at the heart of a synthetic and icy world on which a deep melancholy reigns.
SILENT SKIES: Satellites (2020)
ATMOSPHERIC ROCK - With a "Satellites" very melancholic and often poignant, Silent Skies delivers an opus full of delicacy and atmosphere.
