While he seemed to be launched on the rails of success, Freak Kitchen bursts during flight with the simultaneous departures of Christian Gronlund and Joakim Sjoberg, leaving Mattias Eklundh alone on board. But the man has got a flow of ideas and relations. So, he doesn't take long to put his project back on track with the help of two friends, Christers Örtefors on bass and Björn Fryklund behind the drums. As a result, what started as a drama became a real breath of fresh air.
Indeed, the pop-metal-fusion which made the reputation of Freak Kitchen is played with enthusiasm and dynamism, both more metallic and more innovative, the whole being always carried by the original and unrivalled style of an "IA" always unleashed behind his six-string. The evolutions are found in heavy and aggressive riffs ("Propaganda Pie") which are sometimes reminiscent of Metallica ("Maggots Of Corruption"). The one of "Razor Flowers" interpreted by Christers Örtefors is not among the softest either, even if it joins the group of tracks alternating heavy verses and more pop choruses. The latter are irresistible most of the time ("Porno Daddy").
This characteristic of the chorus that keeps running in your head for many hours is also systematic for the lighter tracks such as the single "Nobody's Laughing" or "Seven Days In June" acting as a break in the middle of the album. It is worth mentioning that Mattias and his band strike us from all sides, sometimes scathing ("Snap"), unleashing a tremendous tapping solo here ("Humiliation Song"), using a cell phone there ("Heroin Breakfast"), dealing with a gloomy subject on a syncopated rhythm ("Porno Daddy"), or throwing us a riff at the same time greasy and unstructured ("Hateful Little People"), he spares us nothing. And if you should be sick to complain about such an orgy, the lighter moments act as a breathing space allowing the whole band to keep the audience in suspense from one end to the other.
"Move" is then like its leader, talented and unpredictable, and it positions itself as one of the (the?) best album of Freak Kitchen. Both surprising and addictive, it catches the attention from its first riff to release it only at the end of its last track ("The Wrong Year") and succeeds in the tour de force to set up a new dynamic to Freak Kitchen while keeping the main characteristics of the style imposed by the band since its beginnings. Absolutely irresistible as the band puts it so well: "That's Entertainment! - Official website
