Arctic Rain is a newcomer on the melodic hard rock scene. Announcing that the combo comes from Sweden will not surprise many people as this country seems to have become the breeding ground of the bands of this musical genre. Pete Alpenborg is the keyboardist at the origin of the band. Known first and foremost as a composer, he has certainly gone unnoticed by many of us. And yet, you took advantage of his talents by listening some tracks of Revolution Saints, House Of Lords or Sunstorm to quote only them. This should now draw your attention a little more to this review of "The One", his first work as a master on board.

The melodic hard rock played here strongly exhales the one that we could find in the bins of your favorite record stores at the end of the 80's and the beginning of the 90's. And  for a first opus, it is a success, that comes as much from the know-how of the keyboardist as to the excellent vocals of Tobias Jonsson and the six-string prowess of Magnus Berglund. And while we could have feared an invasion of synths making the whole thing less percussive here, it turns out that the balance is perfectly found.

The influences are numerous on this "The One". One thinks of the first steps of Treat with the strong FM 'Friends', Talisman on the heavier (all is relative!) 'Give Me All Of Your Love', H.E.A.T. on the very promising 'Lost', Eclipse on the sharp 'Love Of My Life', Cutting Crew on 'Night After Night' and TNT on 'Free My Mind'.

In conclusion, even if it's true that Arctic Rain doesn't invent anything, the nostalgics of 80's hard rock FM will enjoy this well-made record. If you're less than thirty years old and this style seems outdated, give it to your parents. If they ever wore a perfecto with badges on it, they'll probably enjoy it.
