"Tyler Bryant and The Shakedown returns with "Pressure" to a more authentic, rootsy southern blues rock, where the guitar reigns supreme."

The current frustration, which affects artists who cannot bring their music to life because of the health measures put in place to fight the pandemic, is certainly the predominant feeling among musicians. In the face of this, artists can adopt reactions that may be opposing, oscillating between confinement and silence, or they can show a creative impulse leading to new inspirations. This is the second option chosen by the group Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown who took advantage of this crisis to propose very soon after a successful "Truth And Lies" the aptly named "Pressure".

While the previous album showed the need to emancipate itself by looking towards a pop rock side, this new album seems to operate a return to a more roots music, not to say more authentic, even in the production. This can be felt in 'Misery' with its dark blues accents in which Tyler's voice is hoarse or the magnificent 'Hitchicker' whose Texan filiation (ZZ Top) is undeniable. If the guitar of course is widely emphasized, the rhythm is not left out, especially in the dynamic 'Backbone' where the bass takes the lion's share.

The atmosphere of "Pressure" remains dark but for all that it does not seem resigned. The listener will be touched by the refined and sensitive ballad 'Like The Old Me' (which reminds a little of Tom McRae's work in "Just Like Blood"). This piece proves that even though he is a monster of work, Tyler knows how to do in sobriety with an interpretation that highlight a beautiful emotion. But the Americans often let show a beautiful energy through, especially in 'Crazy Days' which brings a little freshness and relief thanks to its chorus and its dynamic riffs. The volcanic and liberating eruption is finally embodied in 'Automatic' with its racy and heavy power.

You will have understood it, if "Pressure" perhaps suffers from its lack of originality, the album is a new demonstration of an undeniable know-how from Tyler Bryant And The Shakedown to plunge us into a southern rock where the guitars reign supreme, at the same time sensual, fat and saturated. Undeniably a contender for the title of this year's rock album.
