Sangheilis is a modern metal band, between metalcore and deathcore with progressive points. Their music is adorned with symphonic orchestrations, beastly power or melody. The French thus propose a cocktail of violence, groove, smashing power, sprinkled with pinches of melodies.
The five-track record starts off gently with an almost cinematographic introductory track where the atmosphere is misty and dark ('Valhalla'), posing a troubling back that hides well the coming immersion in a hell of violence and terror.
The qualities of the record then immediately appear: a balance between power and softness, a music that is certainly sometimes classical but punctuated by icy keyboards, with burning intensity, populated by intense voices, an omnipresent groove ('Beyond Errors') and endowed with some disturbing melodies ('Mindless') or subtly harmonized guitar phrases like in Iron Maiden.
The rhythms are powerful, heavy and varied, like the almost thrash acceleration of 'Beyond Errors'. The core of the record is therefore there, in the groove, in those heavy or faster rhythms that make you want to jump without restraint. This is the case of 'Beastkiller' which relies on an explosive rhythm and then crushes the listener with an extreme slowdown. The complexity of the rhythms sometimes gives way to a stripped-down simplicity ('Apocalypse').
The band colours its rage with melodic touches such as the fast and furious guitar interventions ('Until The End') or the use of clear, very rhythmic vocals. 'Mindless' and 'Beyond Errors' unfold small oriental melodies, 'Beastkiller' offers hovering arpeggios and 'Apocalypse' has a smooth passage that prefigures a sonorous apocalypse.
"Sangheilis" is a refreshing EP that allows you to discover a band with great potential. If it sometimes seems to conform to a certain style, but it also knows how to transgress its limits to assert its personality between softness and intensity. - Official website
