Originally from France, Sins Of Shadows was created in 2014 under the impetus of Nicolas Jacon and Elena Penalver. Since its creation, the band has proposed two Ep and is now launching a first album influenced by a heavy melodic metal close to Iced Earth, Iron Maiden or Megadeth. This gives "The Master's Way" composed of eight tracks with new compositions but also reworked tracks from the second Ep. The record is served by a superb cover closer to a stoner imagery than traditional heavy.

But this is only a lure as the band sends the sauce with conviction with moments of bravery that make you want to headbanger. With 'The Master's Way', 'A Man In The Crowd', 'Not Of This World' and 'Far From Me' Sins Of Shadows shows talent for sharp riffs and solos in a heavy power metal style. There is also an epic and speedy side to the guitars worthy of the 80s. The whole is classic but well executed. Moreover Elena's vocals makes the band stand out from the crowd. Her soft timbre can surprise and seem to lack power but it brings an interesting melancholic touch and is close, especially on 'Not Of This Wold' and 'Far From Me', to a heavy doom close to Avatarium.

Next to this, the band offers some variation in the tones. 'Today's The Day' is stronger with a thrash tone and a more powerful vocals. At the end of the record the rhythm calms down with 'Sense Of Hope' and 'My Lost City'. The first one is melodic and progressive relegating the heavy aspects in the background. The result is good even if the title would have benefited from being shorter. The second one is a melancholic power ballad with just a heavy riff in the background. This allows Elena to shine with a style worthy of Epica or Edenbridge.

With "The Master's Way", Sins Of Shadows offers a quality first album. The band launches into the fray with freshness and envy and offers a good discharge of heavy metal without neglecting the melodies.
