"Dead Elysium" is the sixth album of Vanishing Point, a melodic prog band born in Melbourne 25 years ago, which has offered over the years opus less and less prog and more and more melodic. And it took 6 years for the band to finally release the sequel of Distant In The Sun, an album that was appreciated by the critics.
Let's say it right away, "Dead Aelysium" is simply the best album of Vanishing Point, by far. In spite of a change of drummer and bass-player, the band didn't make its style evolve and it still offers us rhythmics to disassemble the cervicals and galvanizing, hymnic melodies, which are often as successful as those proposed by their cousins from the melodic hard rock.
The melodic metal of Australians is sophisticated, epic, grandiose and profound. Silvio Massaro's voice is bewitching and reminds us of Tom S. Englund's what leads us to think very strongly about Evergrey when listening to this new opus. The guitars are as heavy as cast iron and blend perfectly with the symphonic orchestrations, making the whole hypnotic. Although this work is homogeneous in its quality, some tracks stand out by their addictive melodic impact. These include the eponymous title 'Count Your Days', 'The Fall', 'Salvus' and 'The Ocean'.
"Dead Elysium" is a racy melodic metal album. It draws its strength from the stubbornness of the musicians who compose it for a music that makes them happy if it don't bring them fortune. It remains to be hoped that the combo will end up in the first division to attract a little more light. Today, after this sixth effort, this would be greatly deserved. - Official website
