Upheaval in the land of the Black Noodle: Jérémie Grima, founder of the Project, being "unavailable" (according to the official website), Sébastien Bourdeix has taken over the reins of The Black Noodle Project and has summoned the line up of 2008, making official the return of Fabrice Berger on drums and Anthony Létévé on bass. So when "Code 2.0" (with its pretty graphic cover) was released, conjectures were rife: does this version 2.0, managed by a more family-oriented company (three Bourdeix in the formation) mark a new direction, after a "Divided We Fall" of good memory?

Not really. This new opus dives back into an uninspired and unconvincing atmospheric style; most of the tracks are diluted without reason and could have been better compacted. In the absence of vocals (only 'Acte finale' makes hear the voice of Sandrine Bourdeix), the instrumentals delivered here never take off, and by a curious choice in the mix, the guitar is very often relegated to the background (except in 'Acte VI' where it doesn't have much to say...), delivering only ghostly melodies which give a strong impression of monotony in spite of some attempts more metal ('Acte I') or more rock ('Acte II' and 'Acte V'). The whole leaves an impression of the past: the most modern part is the restitution in 'Act III' of Victor Hugo's 1849 speech on misery... that's to say!

The harder the fall will be... The Black Noodle Project falls again in the crosses which relegated it in second zone many years before. Between uninspired melodies and lack of commitment, "Code 2.0" cruelly disappoints.
