Rather than take a confined vacation, Dero Goi (Oomph!) and Chris Harms (Lord Of The Lost) decided to join forces to create a strange creature halfway between gothic and industrial metal: "Panoptikum" was born!

The album starts in noise and fury with a track marked by its catchy and playful Rammstein-style rhythm and by more intimate parts underlined by an acoustic guitar and ethereal backing vocals. This piece is emblematic of Die Kreatur's schizophrenia, which oscillates between two kinds. The trademark of Die Kreatur is to offer by its caresses a refuge from permanent aggression. The subtlety is such that despite their inherent tension, some tracks will offer a more atmospheric face, like 'Kälter Als Der Tod' or 'Durch Die Nacht' which could be qualified as ballads. 'Benutz Mich' combines a romantic piano verse with a more upbeat main part. Fans of gothic industrial metal may cry sacrilege, but this more relaxing side is, if not surprising, at least pleasant. The surprise is great when the introduction of 'Schlafes Braut' starts, a German folk waltz. 'Gluck Auf' is a mid-tempo cross between a quasi-blue guitar and accordion-like sounds on the choruses. But the listener of darkness should'nt be afraid. 'Zwei 100%' or 'Untergang' will allow him to have is dose of adrenaline, while the poisonous 'Mensch Machine' looks back at the first albums of Nine Inch Nails. The keyboards take centre stage and sparkle like atomic mushrooms. The voices of both performers remind us of the mischievous Rammstein singer, especially as the band sing in german.

On a moonless night, two German scientists gave life to an hybrid creature. Rageous, she takes everything in her path with indus metal rhythms but at the next minute, she shows herself to be poignant, ethereal and atmospheric. If the final result is far from being a failure, we'll regret the somewhat excessive length of the album which instead of sharpening the interest, reduces it. The surprises the band offers us are certainly pleasant but Die Kreatur will have to vary delights next time.
