Nothing stops Grave Digger, which continues to keep moving at an intense pace. The German veteran offers a twentieth album barely 18 months after a convincing "The Living Dead". This rhythm is pleasing but one should remain cautious. Chris Boltendahl's band has been playing a rollercoaster ride over the last few years with good but sometimes too classical albums . Last part of a trilogy started with "Tunes Of War" and "The Clans Will Rise Again", "Fields Of Blood" brings back Scotland and the Highlands.

By rediscovering a theme dear to the heart of its fans, Grave Digger plays it safe but has no right to make mistakes. The album sweeps through the history of Scotland, notably going back to a battle led by William Wallace in 1297. Built like a film, the record plunges into the heart of the battles and gives moments of bravery. In the classic Grave Digger style, 'All For The Kingdom', 'Lions Of The Sea', 'My Final Fight' and 'Gathering Of The Clans' stand out with a heavy, efficient warrior side that makes you want to go to fight, with mind-blowing riffs and solos, all carried by the rocky voice of a fit Chris with the typical choruses on unifying choruses designed for the stage.

Sometimes, the epic breath is even stronger with tracks that take the record into another dimension. The Bronx Drummers' percussion and bagpipes carry 'The Heart Of Scotland', a title that makes you want to raise your fist in the form of a beautiful tribute to the Scottish resistance with a solo tinged with folk. Over more than ten minutes, 'The Fields Of Blood' is a huge, heavy, epic and melancholy moment. It mixes emotions and plunges into the heart of the battle. 'Thousand Tears' is a superb ballad; the duet between Chris and Noora Louhimo from Battle Beast plays the emotion card with talent, well helped by beautiful keyboard parts bringing a great depth. We must also mention 'intro' and 'outro' which give the thrill and allow you to fully immerse yourself in the story with the bagpipes and percussion once again.

With "Fields Of Blood", Grave Digger signs an opus of great quality, successful on all levels. It forcefully plunges us into the heart of the history of a legendary Scotland. It has all the assets to delight fans of epic and melodic heavy music.

BLACK METAL - More than a simple album, it is ultimately a historical fresco, both powerful and intimate, that Abduction transmits to us.
