Here comes again the Swedish band Grand Design with a fifth album opportunely named "V". Despite a few critics who consider that the combo is just a second-rate imitation of Def Leppard, the band still enjoys a certain fame among the younger ones. Ten years have passed since their first opus and they're still here.

Let's face it, the Swede is stubborn and a change of guitarist won't change things. Grand Design hasn't yet broken the mould in which their compositions are made. The combo continues to draw its inspiration from Def Leppard with a voice very close to Heavy Pettin. These men from the cold provide a communicative enthusiasm with their music, the tracks that make up this "V" are invigorating, festive and endowed with galvanizing melodies hyper-typed 80's. No complexity, no headache.

So pull out your spandex and studded bracelets, let your hair grow and press play. It's like you're there. 'Right Away' with its hints of April Wine's 'Sign Of The Gypsy Queen' and 'I Won't Cry Over U Tonite' and its start close to Def Leppard's 'Switch 625' will take you back to the MTV era. The sequel will leave you completely immersed in it with the choruses of 'Strandead (Trapped In A Heart Attack Zone)' and that damned 'Wut Are U Waiting For' which seems to come straight out of the 'Lettin' Loose' of the Scots' Heavy Pettin'. Then you'll find the connection with the Leopards thanks to a 'Walkin' The Wire' which would have easily found its place on the "High 'N' Dry", to better come back to the Glasgow gang with 'I Don't Know What To Say'.

Grand Design has, once again, released an opus for the nostalgic. All you have to do now is position yourself: either you're a lover of the melodic hard rock of the 80's and ready to accept the similarities without judging them guilty, in which case you'll appreciate this nice flashback; or you can't stand influences that are too strong, in which case you can forget this release.

ALBERT CUMMINGS: Believe (2020)
BLUES - "Believe" is a neat soul blues album but without much originality.
DYNAZTY: The Dark Delight (2020)
HEAVY METAL - Dynazty's melodic and modern metal is in line with the current productions of the genre, without revolutionizing it but respecting the codes enough to be effective. To listen to.
