Lamb Of God fans have been waiting for some time to enjoy something new. For even if they didn't stay inactive, a cover album was released in 2018, the American band was dormant. It experienced some turmoil with a small hiatus in 2017 and especially the departure of its original drummer Chris Adler at the end of 2019. But all that is in the past, Art Cruz took over as drummer and the band set to work to offer an eighth eponymous album as a symbol of a new beginning.

Until now, the band has avoided the pitfalls of repetition, even if its formula is now well known. 'Memento Mori' starts the record rather well. The track mixes the groovy thrash that we know with gothic influences for a result tinged with melancholy. Unfortunately, the band quickly returns to its usual formula and deviates very little from its path.

The following tracks will delight the fans but are "already heard": we find a formula that we know well with 'Checkmate', 'Gears', 'New Colossal Hate', 'Bloodshot Eyes' and 'On The Hook', with a typical groove in each riff and solo, the screaming voice of Randy Blythe and a rhythm that makes you shake your head. It works well but doesn't bring anything new from a band that seems to be going around in circles.

Lamb of God still manages to surpass itself with 'Poison Dreams' and 'Routes'. The first one gains some nice hardcore colours thanks to the furious participation of Jamey Basta from Hatebreed. The second one is a nice pure thrash track on which Chuck Billy from Testament forms a great duet with Randy. Also worth mentioning is 'Resurrection Man', slower and more melodic, that shows a threatening side that goes well with the band's classic groove.

If this new Lamb Of God album lacks a bit of madness, it should delight fans of this groovy thrash that the Americans master perfectly.

DEATH METAL - "He Will Come For Us All" is an excellent multifaceted deathcore album.
