In 2005, Frontiers decided to bring together the thundering voices of Jorne Lande (Ark, Masterplan, Avantasia) and Russel Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) with a new guitar prodigy - Magnus Karlsson - composing the songs and playing the six-strings. In this year 2020, the Italian label mixes the cards again by hiring the singer Anette Olzon (The Dark Element and ex-Nightwish) and welcoming Karlsson again.
The latter has, since his debut in 2005, worked by Primal Fear, Place Vendome and recently in The Ferrymen, where he marked with the seal of his talent the compositions that were entrusted to him. This gentleman has a sound, that's undeniable. Of course, this imprint is omnipresent in the "Worlds Apart" which interests us today. The vocal novelty here is the presence of a female voice. Anette Olzon finds these last few years a second breath after her eviction from Nightwish, a solo attempt ("Shine") and two opus with The Dark Element.
The melodic metal developed in this new work will thrill fans of the four Allen/Lande albums and the two Kiske/Sommerville opus that Karlsson had already haunted. The powerful guitars, which shatter generally grandiloquent atmospheres, will transport you to the forges of the God Vulcan, where you will delight in the vocal prowess of the Goddess Anette and instrumentals of Russel.
The first two singles chosen appear at the beginning of the opus. 'Never Die' and the eponymous title announce the colour from the outset. A particular care is given to the melodies, remarkably catchy, and to the epic atmospheres. The sequel is in the same vein. We often think of the aforementioned pairs, but also of The Dark Element, notably on 'I'll Never Leave You', 'Cold Inside' and 'One More Chance' where the ex-Nightwish evolves in solo. Allen will also be entitled to some solo vocal moments, notably on the perfect 'Lost Soul'. Each track could be the soundtrack of a movie where the soli of Karlsson - who sometimes are close to Yngwie Malmsteen - are legion.
Power, mastery, emphasis and grandiloquence are the foundation of this melodic record. The trio Allen/Olzon/Karlsson fit perfectly together and rises easily to the level of previous opus. - Official website
