""The Great Conspiracy" is about the assassination of Olaf Palme in 1986. Nils Patrick Johansson delivers an enthralling heavy record, at the same time baroque, theatrical and powerful."

With "Evil Deluxe", Nils Patrick Johansson had proposed a first solo album cut in an effective melodic heavy metal. Since then, the singer has not been idle: he came back to Astral Doors for an album released in 2019 and has proposed many singles with Lion's Share. This did not satiate him. He is back on his own with the same team for a new opus, "The Great Conspiracy".
Nils Patrick Johansson has an easily recognizable tone, hoarse and he has a perfect concentrate of power and melody. He offers us an interesting concept in the form of a police investigation around the assassination of the Swedish Prime Minister, Olaf Palme, in 1986. The crime remains unsolved and allows Nils to present a dark and mysterious story.
This story is told to us like a play with acts, twists and turns and with a certain madness that sets in. 'The Agitator', which looks back on Palme's career to start, is a heavy speed track carried by a strong chorus with Nils' typical nasal voice. It makes its effect with a great fast solo that borrows the tune from the International. 'One Night At The Cinema' finds a muscular power metal side, with an intense and dramatic rhythm and at the end of the track some shooting noises as background.
Then the album goes crazy and becomes totally crazy. Nils tells his story with a theatrical side by adapting his vocals to the story. There is Savatage in the idea of a tale set to music. The dramatic tension is intense, the subject is serious and each track brings its stone to the edifice. To quote them one by one would be useless but we will underline the perfect balance between the baroque side and the heavy speed melodic side. If we had to highlight one track, it would be 'March Of The Tin Foil Hats', the most delirious of all with a delicious opera metal aspect.
With "The Great Conspiracy", Nils Patrick Johansson strikes a nice blow. He transcends his melodic heavy music by bringing a remarkable baroque side. And it puts back in light a committed and inspired man a little forgotten. - Official website
