Just over three months after his colleague Yogi Lang, Kalle Wallner, the RPWL guitarist, returns to the solo exercise, or rather to the exercise with another band, Blind Ego, with whom he has already recorded three studio albums, followed by a live album in 2017. Since its creation in 2007, the line-up has been very changeable, Kalle Wallner remaining the only common denominator; however, this "Preaching the Choir" renews the same line-up as on "Liquid Live".

If Blind Ego's style has fluctuated a bit over time, going from Kino style soft prog to more assertive metallic trends where the shadow of Porcupine Tree was not far away, the guitar remained the framework of the project. This is also the case here, but RPWL aficionados who were waiting for a floydian guitar will be surprised: the tone here is much tighter, the six-string going more into the sharp riff than into the sweeping. We're in a genre that goes more towards melodic hard rock, sometimes almost heavy (the beginning of 'Broken Land'), with an extremely classical compositional structure (two chorus verses, a guitar solo, a chorus verse and a conclusion), giving pride of place to easy listening melodies and unifying choruses to be sung with public during the concerts ('Preaching the Choir' among others).

No originality to be expected in the development of the tracks, except for the intro of the first one and the more progressive development of the last one, which will be more RPWL-like. What remains is an accessible album, delivering efficient and square tracks, enhanced by the beautiful presence of Kalle Wallner on guitar (mention in the intervention on 'Heading for the Stars', which gives a little cachet to a rather dull track).

Between Muse, Mike & the Mechanics, or even Scorpions, Blind Ego follows a well marked path with quality tracks but not unforgettables...

Etonnament, j'aime bien cet album. C'est vrai qu'il est bien tourné vers le hard rock mélodique mais avec un peu quelque chose qui lui permet de ne pas proposer des compositions trop "cliché".
