Dusk Of Delusion was born in 2016 from the meeting of musicians from Akroma, Elvaron, La Horde and Louka. Their first bombshell ("(F)unfair") was powerful, violent, melodic and dark, even if it was set in a carnival setting. Today, the band releases a concept album "Watch Your 6" which is set in the First World War. Through personal stories and individual experiences highlighting strong feelings (violence, hatred, fear, anger...), the band weaves in ten key steps a red thread running through the events that forever shaped the pain.
Hate is the first step towards violence ('Serbian's Gate'). The song refers to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand who set fire to the Balkans. Strangely enough, to evoke hatred, the track begins with a mysterious and meditative melody, then the guitar hammers out a powerful rhythm. Dusk Of Delusion renews its efficiency and adds a progressive flavour with the solitary guitar with sensual vibratos. Fear ('The Messenger') is the daily life of a young soldier, in charge of transmitting messages on the front line. A flood of sound falls on the track, comparable to the flood of lead falling from the sky, while the chorus is built on a bewitching melody. Then comes the love ('Letters To C') between the soldier and his beloved, materialized by gentle arpeggios in the introduction. The tenuous link between the beloved and the soldier is a lantern that helps to survive, while pushing to melancholy. Thus the melody is sweet, the riffs bitter and the song between rage and sweetness. Then comes the anger ('Ladie's Path') that engenders mutinies after the battle of Ladies' Path, or when, as in 'A Long Engagement Sunday', the soldiers do their utmost to be demobilized. A punk energy sweeps along the path as the solitary six-stringers plunge it into progressive landscapes.
Moral fatigue sets in ('Возле окна', Near the Window) during the Russian revolution, when tsarism disappears and communism is born. Arpeggios worthy of Metallica introduce the track while the voice is distant. The soothed tempo builds a meditative atmosphere reminiscent of Pain Of Salvation ("Entropia"), enhanced by an impeccable sweeping. Sadness ('Sadness is my Only Retaliation') intervenes when a German soldier tells about the loss of his friend. Against a back of misty atmospheres and powerful guitars, the track sends a desperate cry to heaven. Courage ('The Guardians') is symbolised by the courage shown by the women who remain behind the front lines, replacing the men in the factories. The song is energetic, then the melody is anchored in memories, enhanced by sweet arpeggios. The joy is born ('Smiling From Across') during a Christmas, during a truce between enemies. The rhythm subsides, the voice softens, and an energetic music worthy of Iron Maiden appears. Despair ('Verdun') comes during this battle. The beautiful a cappella introduction, the saturated arpeggios and the dissonant melodies set a devastated, filthy and tormented scene. Death ('While He Sleeps') seems to be inspired by the poem 'Le Dormeur du Val'. The aerial rhythm reminds us of Pink Floyd, even if the voice rumbles. Finally the music fades into silence like the blood of the dying soldier in the sun-yellowed grass.
"Watch Your 6" is a beautiful and moving album where Dusk Of Delusion surpasses itself thanks to its mastery and audacity. The record is a kind of catharsis to expel demons and lost souls, a spotlight on men, women and anonymous people forever turned upside down, a speech of thanks and gratitude addressed to the survivors as well as to the dead. This opus is an almost religious procession, an act of remembrance, a vibrant tribute where only beauty can erase the horrible and unspeakable. - Official website
