After a breathtaking "Monstereophonic" (2016), Lordi had disappointed with a "Sexorcism" (2018) whose outrageous provocation poorly masked a certain lack of inspiration. This time, Mr. Lordi and his band created a particularly original concept with a fictional compilation of a band that didn't exist. Yes, you read well and you don't have to worry because you're not alone in the fourth dimension not grasping the meaning of the project. But don't worry, the quintet will quickly take you into its delirium and make you forget all your existential problems.
Propelled by an always impeccable production from the legendary Finnvox studios in Helsinki, the 11 tracks of this opus (plus an intro, two interludes and an outro) might even leave you stunned. Varied, sometimes surprising, always unstoppable, they show a band that is still able to question and reinvent itself. We plunge into the heart of a show on radio SCG10, the intro launches the story of this tribute to a band that never existed but which draws its influences from the greatest to whom it pays homage through humourous winks. We recognize AC/DC, Accept, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Guns'n'Roses... The excerpts are those of titles never written by these legends and which show the surprising imitation capacities of Lordi's members.
If 'Horror For Hire' is a good, powerful, efficient and catchy hard rock track, typical of the band, the rest of the album will take care of bewildering the listener with tracks with a strong industrial flavour ('Shake The Baby Silent') or disco-hard worthy of Kiss and his legendary 'I Was Made For Loving You' ('Zombibo'), an amusing reminder of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' ('Like A Bee To The Honey' and its unexpected saxophone) or again even intonations worthy of Supertramp ('Appolyon'). The list of winks is not limited to these few examples and would be too long to be enumerated.
A masterstroke that this "Killection" which will undoubtedly make a date in Lordi's career but also in the history of concept-albums. Varied, surprising and devilishly catchy, this fictitious compilation will quickly prove to be addictive, offering the best the Finns know how to do while proving an astonishing capacity of renewal so much it's done without distorting the band's identity. So let yourself be disoriented by this opus: you won't regret it! - Official website
