""Metalmighty' is one notch below its predecessor but should nevertheless please fans of speed melodic metal."

On the occasion of the release of "Savage Requiem", we hoped that Dushan Petrossi wouldn't leave Magic Kingdom in the shadows for too long. This wish wasn't really heard, the guitarist, busy with Iron Mask, took 4 years to come back. But the wait is over and the Belgian guitar hero's heroïc fantasy project is back with "Metalmighty" and a new singer. Christian Palin has been replaced by Michael Vescera after a short test with Fabio Lione.

The album is in the straight line of its predecessor. We find a pure melodic power in the lineage of Rhapsody. The difference comes from the vocals. Vescera is good but we regret the low timbre of a Palin and on the higher parts, he seems a little bit limited. This being the case, the ensemble holds its own even if the musical formula is a little repetitive.

The strong point of the disc comes finaly from the tracks that are not in the pure melodic speed metal style. 'In The Den Of The Moutain Trolls' is a nice track with a medieval touch, in the idea of a Blind Guardian. In this spirit 'King Without A Crown' is a success with its heavy epic pronounced and carried by a majestic melody.  'Just A Good Man' is a beautiful and melancholic ballad that allows Vescera to shine with fine riffs and solos, with a classical touch. Finally 'Rise From The Ashes, Demon' offers an interesting oriental touch with a high-flying instrumental part reminiscent of Rainbow.

The classic melodic speed metal is carried by tracks such as 'Wizards And Witches', 'Fear My Fury', 'So Fragile' and 'Temple Of No Gods' whose heavy character is expressed by the guitar of a Dushan Petrossi always as virtuoso without overdoing it. The epic side is put forward in a pure fantasy spirit with a sustained rhythm and well brought quality choruses. But some tracks are a little bit too much, in particular 'Unleash The Dragon' which is long to start and with a not very accurate vocals, and 'Metalmighty' which also has a hard time to convince with a too generic fantasy side.

"Metalmighty', without being a pure disappointment, is one notch below its predecessor. Nevertheless, Magic Kingdom still shows some nice things that should please fans of the genre.
