For more than 20 years now, Payable On Death (P.O.D. for close friends) has been scouring the neo-US metal scene with a renewed popularity in recent years - more than 10 million albums sold since 1992. Regularly nominated for the Grammy Awards and present in many soundtracks across the Atlantic, P.O.D. remains unknown in Europe despite a visit to Hellfest in 2013.
A mix of aggressive metal, rap and more traditional vocals, P.OD. has his own style and it is this particularity that makes him interesting. "Circles" is already the band's tenth studio album. The most striking influences gravitate in grunge and neo-Metal spheres, but not only. For example, the groovy 'Circles' and 'Domino' seem to have been written for radio. It is also easy to find Red Hot Chili Peppers tunes on "Always Southern California" or "On The Radio", two ultra melodic tracks with unstoppable effectiveness made of heady melodies and a simple and effective rock. Similarly, 'Fly Away' recalls the Black Eyed Peas, Elephunk period. Other more classic titles will easily recall A7X ('Listening For The Silence' or'Dreaming') and will leave a very positive overall impression. The guitars are sharp, the rhythmic is picky and the musicians, without being geniuses, display a mastery and experience that allows them all the fantasies.
But it is in the exercise of aggressive hip-hop that the combo gives the full measure of its communicative energy. Like the whirling metal rap of 'Soundboy Killa' and 'Panic Attack', the opening track 'Rockin' With The Best' sends wood! On a most rock rhythmic, supported by a dirtily vibrant bass and saturated riffs, the very typical west coast rap song quickly gives way to a raging chorus that takes everything in its path.
Despite the initial reluctance, it must be acknowledged that the elements of urban culture and hip-hop are extremely well integrated into a music that intelligently blends all the influences. Everyone should find reasons to rejoice and even the most resistant to US rap. P.O.D. is certainly unknown in France, but it is very unfair considering the qualities of their last offering that we can only advise you to study closely. - Official website
