"Between The Space" is the second album of Monte Pittman's 2018 double release alongside the all-acoustic "Better Or Worse", as we mentioned in the latter's introduction. A double disc to satisfy Pittman's schizophrenic pleasures with folk pop for "Better Or Worse" and metal with "Between The Space". It is the latter that we invite you to browse in this review.

No fundamental upheaval compared to his last two albums, Monte Pittman remains the master of the well planted riff and an inspired melodist. Where "Between The Space" stands out is in the attention paid to the voices with a richness that has never before burst so brightly and which helps to soften the incandescence of certain fireworks.

Following the example of "Better Or Worse", the singer-guitarist gives himself over completely in this very personal "Between The Space", entirely played, recorded and mixed by Monte Pittman, through interpretations full of accuracy and emotions as in the superb chorus of 'Between The Space' or the mid-tempo 'Once Upon A Time'. The American reviews all his metal vocabulary starting with the thrash 'Equal Temperament' with an excellent pre-refrain and a unifying chorus or in an even purer formulation with 'Reverse Magnetism' generous in fury, rhythmically complex and stingy in melody. The metal rich in riff and energy is at the party with the first four tracks before a pleasant and relaxing mid-tempo, 'Once Upon A Time', brings the temperature down. Finally, 'Beguiling' closes the album with a pachydermal stoner that the Black Label Society would not have disavowed.

It's quite simple, "Between The Space" contains eight tracks and as many success stories to savor for their energy, their unbridled solos and their chorus melodies. The formats are relatively short and the power deployed gives a first impression of raw and instinctive metal. But a more sustained listening reveals many details that modify this initial judgment. Behind the introductions to the aggressive riffs are more elaborate developments that can take shape in welcome arpeggios ('Equal Temperament', the acoustic introduction to 'Beguiling'), instrumental extensions in bridges followed by solos ('Ominous / Hope') or a layout of parts that goes beyond the song format used most often on the album ('Changing Of The Guard').

No need to overdo it, the demonstration is done with thirty-eight minutes well filled with metal of high quality. The potential revealed by Pittman's few solo albums is confirmed in "Between The Space", the quintessence of all the guitarist's creativity in direct, powerful and melodic condensed versions. With the intimate "Better Or Worse" and the fulminating "Between The Space", it's an encounter with a complete and generous artist.

OTHERS - The antithesis of "Between The Space" with its acoustic guitar-voice songs, "Better Or Worse" conveys the most intimate and sensitive facet of Monte Pittman.

DEATH METAL - A flawless album, "The burning Cold" blows hot and cold in a mastered and terribly efficient old school Death Metal style.
