Since his return to business in 2010, Treat has been doing a series of faultless performances to the delight of both melodic and muscular hardcore fans. "Coup de Grace" (2010) and "Ghost Of Graceland" (2016) were great albums while "The Road More And Less Travelled" (2017) offered a first live testimony perfectly representing the majesty of the Swedish band on stage. Without delay, the quintet is already back with "Tunguska", a new studio testimony once again produced by Peter Mansson and Anders Wikstrom. The title refers to an explosion of unknown origin that occurred in Siberia in 1908 and whose energy was equivalent to several hundred times Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It remains to be seen whether this energy has been captured by Treat for a third opus whose main challenge will be to maintain the level of excellence of its predecessors.
Launched by an atmospheric introduction, "Progenitors" lays the foundations for what will prove to be a new monument in the discography of the Stockholm gang. A fine and powerful production, a monstrous rhythmic section with a powerful and tonic bass and a hyper dynamic drum set, omnipresent keyboards without being intrusive, unstoppable riffs and solos, hyper catchy choruses with majestic choirs, all for a powerful result.
In the midst of the classic titles but with a flawless grip and efficiency ('Always Have, Always Will','Rose Of Jericho','Undefeated'), accelerations to keep attention on the alert with catchy choruses and fast solos ('Creeps', Riptide'), and darker pieces ('Best Of Enemies') or heavy ('Man Overboard'), appear a ballad with a bewitching chorus ('Tomorrow Never Comes') and two potential hits. 'Heartmath City' and 'Build This City' have the profile of the tracks that will become hits with their pop metal with unstoppable and unifying choruses. It is also worth noting the presence of a few keyboard solos that enrich the quintet's palette as part of pretty duels with the guitar ('Man Overboard','Riptide','All Bets Are Off').
As improbable as it is exciting, "Tunguska" allows Treat to release a flawless third album while maintaining a level of excellence that is almost impossible to find anywhere else. In twelve tracks, the Swedes once again manage to combine power and melody, catchy and deep, variety and identity recognizable among thousands. Between The Poodles, which is getting caught up in the carpet, Europe, which prefers to sail on a more revival wave, and a younger generation which has not yet confirmed all the hopes placed in it, Anders Wikstrom's gang has definitely established itself as the essential reference in terms of melodic hard rock. - Official website
