But what's behind the acronym W.E.T.? The regulars will easily answer that these three letters stand for Work Of Art, Eclipse and Talisman, Swedish hard melodic bands having released 17 albums altogether.  "Earthrage" witnesses the coming back, five years after "Rise Up", of the two new strong men of the actual melodic scene, Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, Sons Of Apollo) and Erik Martensson (Eclipse, Nordic Union, Ammunition), accompanied by Robert Säll (Work Of Art), Robban Bäck (Mustach) and Magnus Henriksson (Eclipse). Frontiers is proud of this comeback, its boss asserting to whoever wants to hear it that this opus (dixit) "is by far one of the best records in the label history". And then our eyes are wide open. It remains to be known whether our ears will go along with the trend.

At the risk of breaking the suspense, let's start by acknowledging that this album is the best of the band's three attempts. The twelve tracks on this record are simply flawless, with no pauses or fillers. Some tracks can be highlighted like the gargantuan melodic 'Watch The Fire' sung in duet by Sotto and Martensson and its huge final wohohohoho, 'Burn' with its break in the sharp guitar announcing a rise in power drums/solo of six fabulous strings , the galvanizing 'Kings On Thunder Road' and 'Elegantly Wasted', undulating mid-tempo flirting with the ballad.

But we should not forget 'Urgent' which manages to make you forget the one of whoever you know, the anthemic 'Dangerous', the very catchy 'Calling Out Your Name' reminding of Eclipse and the ballad 'Heart Is On The Line' wrapped in vocal and guitaristic feelings. It would be a pity to omit 'I Don't Wanna Play The Game' and its pumping rock, 'The Burning Pain Of Love' full of individual and collective performances of the musicians and which reveals itself after listenings and the addictive 'The Neverending Retraceable Dream'.

In the end, all the tracks of the opus deserve to be mentioned. Of all the W.E.T. albums, "Earthrage" seems the most accomplished and the easiest to be grasped. A MUST for any Hard Rock Melodic fan !
