"With musicians from In Flames or Amaranthe, Cyrha offers an excellent first album between melodic power and neo soft metal"

CyHra is the meeting of seasoned musicians who played in In Flames for Peter Iwers (bass) and Jesper Strömblad (guitar), who also played in Sinergy or Hammerfall in their early days. There is also Jake E on vocals (ex-Amaranthe) and Alex Landenburg (drums) who played alongside Luca Turilli. They released a first album entitled "Letters To Myself" which is mainly in a melodic power movement tinged with neo soft metal.

CyHra does not want to revolutionize music and offers resolutely metal riffs, a high and powerful voice, an ounce of modernity and effective melodies. All this constitutes a mixture that allows the protagonists to indulge themselves. This is how Jesper Strömblad gives it his all, alternating syncopated and dry riffs with voluntary leads and melodious harmonies. He also has fun on short but abundant solos. The vocals of Jake E who was only one of Amaranthe's three singers plays the main role here, and he does it well even if some female voices are heard here and there. He puts a lot of anger and accuracy into it despite a great variety of tones and grains. Jake E is undoubtedly a strong point of the quartet. Behind these qualities, we find concrete rhythms with rather modern sounds supported throughout the album by electronic keys that make the subject very relevant.

The first single "Karma" immediately sets the tone with all the ingredients of CyHra's recipe. A simple structure, catchy riffs and to top it all off the chorus is effective. "Heartrage" is a little melodic gem that will delight Amaranthe fans. 'Closure' looks more like a mid-tempo power ballad. A few calmer tracks with piano and arpeggios close the album with a more melancholic touch. The last three titles counteract the impression that the songs are all a bit designed on the same model.

Despite a slight feeling of redundancy, CyHra scores many points. Strömblad appears as a goldsmith of the sharp riff that fits into a movement of dreadful melodic efficiency. To be followed without fail.

OTHER REVIEWS
MARILYN MANSON: Heaven Upside Down (2017)
INDUSTRIAL METAL - "Heaven Upside Down" is a very well-balanced album, reflecting the creative maturity of an artist, certainly a little more conventional than in his early days, but whose mastery of writing and composition reaches its full potential.
WINTERSUN: The Forest Seasons (2017)
HEAVY METAL - Between symphonic, death, folk and atmospheric black metal, 'The Forest Seasons' is a splendid work which is much more than an interlude while waiting for "Time II".
