Knowing that this Wobbler exists since 1999 and that it remains a very underground prog band, the name of the fourth opus, "From silence to somewhere" , could appear as a wink to their career... Will this album allow them to leave this "silence" and anonymity in which they got stuck over the years, to finally allow them to gain visibility?

If one sticks purely to the format of the record, it's not sure that it will help them to go one step further. With only 4 tracks, each lasting 10 minutes at least except for the instrumental interlude, 'Rendered In Shades Of Green', which is more of a transition, the album will have enough to arouse the curiosity of purists adepts of convoluted  songs, but maybe not that of the general public !

Beyond this aspect, the Norwegians offer a very diversified content, unbridled, whimsical and twirling, overflowing with energy and creativity. No doubt that the fans and nostalgics of "Close To The Edge" and others "Selling England By The Pound" will find what they like with this new album, very strongly inspired by the pioneer prog rock bands of the 70's such as Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer or King Crimson. The resulting sound is also very retro and is very close to the standard vinyl recordings of the time, with a quality that can be improved but very warm. The omnipresence of Mellotron keyboards and Hammond organ is no stranger to this and gives a real charm to the work.

As on their previous productions, the Norwegians navigate between ambiences and styles with finesse, like the excellent 'Foxlight' which closes the album, and its mysterious intro, where the guitar phrasing and Andreas Prestmo's voice are reminiscent of Genesis' 'The Cinema Show', mixing Mellotron and flute before ending with a jumpy and festive Jethro Tull-style finale, where even the horns invite themselves to complete the album in an explosive whirlwind.

In the end, there is not much missing from this album to be a true reference of the genre, if not a little more coherence on the eponymous title, a masterpiece that is almost 22 minutes long. If the different parts of the song taken independently are of very good quality, the sequences between them are not always clear and sometimes lack fluidity, a defect that is fortunately corrected afterwards to the great delight of the listener.

Six years after an already excellent third album (maybe even better!), Wobbler seems to have found his credo by reaching an ingenious balance between accessibility and creativity. If some passages sometimes seem to go off in all directions, the whole remains very coherent, creating an ensemble of incredible richness and variety.  After 18 years of career, it is perhaps finally time for the Norwegians to take off...
