First of all, it is important to underline that behind the band Edge of Sanity hides the progressive death project of the very prolific Dan Swano (Nightingale, Bloodbath...). At the mention of the name Death, it is likely that you will be tempted to pass by. If this reaction is quite understandable, you should know that it will make you miss the discovery of a fabulous progressive metal album.

The approach of this concept album is already visible through the tracklist which is in fact composed of only one and unique 40 minutes track. As such, these particularities make this heavy pavement difficult to access for the listener from the first listening so much the album is rich... But when the whole is assimilated, the listener finds himself in front of a reference of the genre as well as the productions of the Swedish of Opeth. And if this name appears it is not a coincidence knowing that Mikael Akerfeldt comes to sing and play the guitar on the album.

Musically and as in the works of Opeth, Edge of Sanity marries the two extremes that are the Death metal, heavy and powerful, and the calm passages that come to intermingle throughout the main riff of this 'Crimson'. And even if the atmospheric passages are not as poignant and may not reach the emotional heights of Opeth's albums, Edge of Sanity perfectly masters its subject and offers us an album of progressive death metal of high flight. In short, a must-have of the genre to discover or rediscover.

OTHER REVIEWS
KHYMERA: A New Promise (2005)
A.O.R. - Oscillating between A.O.R. and hard-FM, "A New Promise" will easily satisfy even the most demanding fans of the genre.
DEVIN TOWNSEND: Synchestra (2006)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Less catchy than Accelerated Evolution, Synchestra remains a good Devin Townsend album.
