"Still inspired by Journey, "Light In The Dark" is "just" a correct album."

Two years after their eponymous debut album, here's the return of the four-star trio gathered by Frontiers around Deen Castronovo, drummer with Journey, Hardline and Bad English and enlisted with Steve Vai, Marty Freedman and Ozzy. Accompanied by his two faithful accomplices, Jack Blades, bass player with Night Ranger and Damn Yankees and Doug Aldrich, guitar player with Dio, House Of Lords and Whitesnake, he offers us in this Indian summer which is coming to an end a "Light In The Dark" that we hope will be just as brilliant as his big brother.
The production of this melodic hard rock opus is assured by Allessandro Del Vecchio. The Italian delivers a remarkable performance here, perfectly highlighting Castronovo's muscular strike and the luminosity of Aldrich's soli. The latter are a major asset of the combo, as are the vocals. It is in perfect adequacy with the ambiences that the compositions wish to insufflate.
When it comes to inspiration, of course, Journey is present everywhere. The American combo sprinkle its talented melodious influence on punchy tracks like the excellent 'Light In The Dark', heavy tracks like the dark and beautiful 'Freedom', fast scores like 'Ride On' which also evokes Riot in 'Fire Down Under'. Journey is also there, in filigree, behind the two ballads (especially 'I Wouldn't Change A Thing') and the more AOR tracks like the galvanising 'Don't Surrender' and 'Running On The Edge'.
However, it's unfortunate that this melodic talent is less in the air on a few other tracks such as 'Take You Down', 'Can't Run Away From Love' (the second ballad), 'Another Chance', 'Falling Apart' and 'The Storm Inside' which are less punchy. Fortunately, the deluxe version of the album features four live compositions taken from the previous album. They come from the band's first concert in Milan and are really high quality, just like the opus from which they come from.
5 very good tracks on 11, it's few. Comparing to the previous one, the result is a little disappointing. "Light In The Dark" is "just" a correct album from a super-group that is probably being asked for too much. - Official website
