"In a hard'n'heavy register like Evergrey, "The New Awakening" is of a great melodic quality served by a huge production and efficient riffs."

Days Of Jupiter is a Swedish metal band drawing its inspiration from both sides of the Atlantic: the typical European hard rock and the American style heavy. The result is a huge sound already heard on the band's two previous albums, and especially on the excellent "Only Ashes Remain" in 2015.

Relying on huge riffs, compositions with effective melodies and an impeccable production, the Nordics have duplicated the recipe for this "New Awakening" and the listening pleasure remains. From the very first tracks, the heavy of Days Of Jupiter is ultra effective, as shown by the anthem in power that is 'We Will Never Die'. In the wake, 'I am Stone' unfolds the same mid-tempo and the rocky voice of Jan Hilli magnifies the immediate melodies in a register close to Tom Englund (Evergrey) or Franky Perez (Apocalyptica).

If the structure of the pieces does not propose great variations, the effectiveness of the melodies and the meticulousness of the mixing make the whole perfectly digestible, each musician holding his role with seriousness without overflowing, in the service of the melody. Some more nervous passages remain tempered by unstoppable refrains ('Wasted Years' or 'Insane'). And even when the band indulges in the inevitable ballad with 'You Can't Erase Me', Jan Hilli dresses up as Tom Englund and gives us a voice that will give you chills. It is right, sober and simply beautiful.

Some people may regret this too close proximity to Evergrey, but Days Of Jupiter doesn't limit itself to this role and especially doesn't make it a complex. Sometimes even more melodic than its illustrious model, the Swedish combo puts all the ingredients to appropriate an image of heavy melodic that fits perfectly and tracks like 'If I Were God' or 'My Tragedy My Curse' will finish convincing the most skeptical that these five guys have an ability to produce heavy fireworks with communicative energy and twirling choruses. If the end of the album seems a little less efficient, it's because the surprise effect doesn't act as it did at the beginning of the opus, because each track, taken individually, keeps its melodic strength, its fat riffs and its tempos to give you ankle tendonitis.

So, of course, Days Of Jupiter doesn't revolutionize the genre and offers us a classic hard'n'heavy album. But the strength of "The New Awakening" is elsewhere. It is hidden in the efficiency of the melodies, the richness of composition and writing, all served by an irreproachable production. You stamp your foot, shake your head and hum throughout the album, proof that the band aimed for the right thing and gives pleasure to the listener. And that's all we ask.
