Without taking into account the live album "Sunrise On Sunset Blvd." released in 2013, it had been 6 years since Rhino Bucket had offered us a new album. Six long years that made us fear the worst about the future of Georg Dolivo's band, which was used to produce albums every two or three years since its return to the business in 2006 ("And Then It Got Ugly"). But here is finally something to reassure us in this year of grace 2017 with "The Last Real Rock 'n' Roll". Note in passing that the Finnish leader of the US formation took the opportunity to enlist the fifth drummer of the band in 7 albums, the newcomer being Dave DuCey (ex Rob Rock, WWIII and Warrior).

If Rhino Bucket's identity and style are already well established in the hard-rock landscape, the Californians are not in the habit of serving us with reheated material on each album. Of course, the roots are clearly planted in Australian pub-rock and Georg Dolivo's voice has always had a surprising kinship with Bon Scott's, but it's high time that fans free this band from the cumbersome and unfair AC/DC-like label. This new album has all the elements to lift Rhino Bucket out of that shadow and finally propel them to the top of the genre where they can get the recognition they deserve. For that, the variety is not only in the compositions, but also in the vocal performances of the master of the place. Because it is probably the most impressive point of this "The Last Real Rock 'n' Roll" which sees Georg Dolivo alternating the raging interventions ('Forgiveness', 'The Devil You Know') with some more rock passages which are not without reminding the late Doc Neeson ('I'm Your Doctor'), even going until offering some almost inhabited interventions ('So Long') worthy of the former singer of The Angels.

If Rhino Bucket has never written a ballad, and if Georg Dolivo said that he did not want that to happen, this does not prevent a certain diversity of moods and approaches. From the federative and claiming 'Hello Citizens' (very AC/DC for the fact) to the powerful, dark and hammered 'The Devil You Know', there is here enough to dislocate all the joints and cervicals which compose your skeleton. The choruses are hyper catchy ('It's A Sin', 'Bang My Drum'), sometimes flirting with the pop ('So Long') and sometimes supported by surprising female choirs ('Last Call'). The latter reinforces the surprise effect with some discreet Hammond organ layers. As for the refreshing novelties, we will also note the original attack of the solo of 'I'm Your Doctor' and the bridge of 'Falling Down The Stairs' before the short and effective solo of a Brian Forsythe always so impeccable.

"The Last Real Rock 'n' Roll" offers here a real rock'n'roll with integrity, authenticity and without concession. On the other hand, after such a demonstration, it is not possible to consider, even for a second, that it is the last one. Even if he never proposed a weak album, Rhino Bucket finally holds his work of reference which imposes him at the sides of AC/DC and The Angels on the tops of the genre and it would be an insult made to the gods of the Rock to miss this album and not to give to its authors the recognition which they deserve.

AUTRES CHRONIQUES
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA: Amber Galactic (2017)
ROCK - "Amber Galactic" is a superb tribute to the 70s and 80s with classic rock, funk and even disco inspirations, a time when bands like Kiss, Boston, Toto, Foreigner and Survivor defined rock.
DAYS OF JUPITER: New Awakening (2017)
HEAVY METAL - In a hard'n'heavy register like Evergrey, "The New Awakening" is of a great melodic quality served by a huge production and efficient riffs.
