After having been a fashion phenomenon for its incredible speed of execution, Dragonforce has evolved to gain credibility. The arrival of Marc Hudson in 2011 was a decisive factor, as was Fred Leclercq's involvement. This had given a good record with "Maximum Overload" in 2014. Since then, we've been waiting for a successor... It's called "Reaching Into Infinity", the seventh album that sees this line-up remain stable.

From the beginning, after an epic introduction close to Iron Maiden, we find a nice power metal trio of shock. With 'Ashes Of The Daw', 'Judgement Day' and 'Astral Empire', Dragonforce shows itself as we know it with riffs and soli speed. But it confirms this anchoring towards the melody carried by Marc Hudson whose crystalline voice illuminates the songs.  Moreover, many passages confirm the idea that Dragonforce is no longer just a technical beast but a melodic power band worthy of the greats of the genre. One can only be seduced by the catchy end of 'Judgement Day' or the progressive break of 'Astral Empire'.

The rest of the album confirms this impression. Dragonforce offers us a varied cocktail and alternates atmospheres. With 'Curse Of Darkness', he offers a pure melodic happy metal track while 'Silence' is a good ballad. Then 'War' and 'Midnight Madness' see guitars and keyboards twirl with ease. Marc excels and varies his vocal with ease. Finally 'The Edge Of The World' is the centerpiece with more than 11 minutes. This track flirts with progressive and alternates epic heavy and speed metal for a result that is reminiscent of Iron Maiden's great moments. There is even a surprising growl passage that brings Dragonforce to the doors of death metal.

"Reaching Into Infinity" is an excellent quality vintage from a group that has taken the time to mature and is now able to combine velocity and melody for an unstoppable result. Dragonforce is like a wine, it improves as you get older and it will be interesting to see if it can go even higher.
