With this latest album, the Californian cat is content to purr nicely, like a big fat cat whose claws have quickly blunted over time.
The flamboyance and energy that emerged from their first albums is totally absent here. Most of the titles on "Lower The Bar" are weak: they go from one ear to another without stopping through the emotion and memory boxes. It's not bad, because the musicians are serious and the songs are well arranged, but it lacks a lot of spiciness and relief. Everything is agreed, sanitized, not surprisingly. There is hardly anything but 'She's Tight', whose slightly more catchy side makes this track a little more effective than the others and 'Now The Fun Starts', whose omnipresent bass line accompanies this track a little darker and more surprising than the others. There is hardly anything left but the deliberately childish and sex and "fun" oriented texts to eventually give us a slight chill. But you can imagine that with titles like "Pussy Ain't Free", the emotion will be short-lived.
Steel Panther proposes a basic hard rock, made by honest musicians for a result that is very anecdotal. Steel Panther: a band that benefits more from being seen than heard. - Official website
