""Mirrorworld" is a good melodic metal album to get absolutely in its deluxe version."

Coming out of nowhere in January 2015, Serious Black, with his debut album "As Daylight Breaks", managed to glean a lot of positive reviews from multiple reviewers of all stripes. The opus, powerful and melodic at the same time, and the live performances of the combo alongside Hammerfall, Gamma Ray and Kamelot have indeed convinced many observers. Composed of the former vocalist of Bloodbound and Tad Morose - now known and recognized as Urban Breed - and former musicians from Firewind, Edenbridge, Rhapsody Of Fire and Visions Of Atlantis, the band offers already a second attempt called "Mirrorworld".
The band sends us nine tracks of melodic metal, sometimes heavy, from which emerge some touches of speed metal, some hard rock passages and even hints of AOR. A mix of genres, but when it comes to melodies, it's all very promising, so four stars yes, but only for the deluxe version.
When the trend is towards melodic/power metal, we often think of Bloodbound and Firewind as on 'As Long As I'm Alive', 'State Of Despair' and 'Castor Skies'. Between these powerful and catchy tracks, there's a FM-inspired track ('Dying Hearts') and a cinematographic instrumental ('Beneath The Surface' intro), both excellent, two melodic speed tracks ('You're Not Alone' and 'The Unborn Never Die'), a heavy rock piece ('Dying Hearts') and a mid tempo ('Heartbroken Soul'), all four of them good but less melodically efficient.
Given this state of affairs, one might think that "Mirrorworld" is not as well made as "As Daylight Breaks", the band's first attempt, and this is unfortunately the case. Except that, and there's an incongruity here, the digipack edition, which contains no less than five bonus tracks (plus two tracks in acoustic version), offers us as many potential hits! So certainly, they're all calibrated melodic hard rock, even very melodic, and, for a combo labelled metal, it can pose a problem of adhesion for the aggressive followers of the genre. But all the same, why did you put aside such a quantity of unstoppable tracks.
It's therefore a feeling of regret that we feel when listening to this "Mirrorworld" in its classical version. Those who will get the deluxe version will have a completely different impression of success than the barely 40-minute version offered to the greatest number of people. Too bad ! - Official website
