We left Delain two years ago with the dark and agressive "The Human Contradiction" and we found them again this spring with the EP "Lunar Prelude" announcing the upcoming album. Delain has managed in half a dozen years to enter the rather tight circle of successful symphonic metal combos. Its pop and melodic approach of the genre, in no way obscuring the epic, theatrical and orchestral aspects of rigour, allowed the Dutch to rise, in terms of notoriety, behind the masters of the place, the indestructible Within Temptation. Symphonic metal, certainly, but easy listening symphonic metal, and the style undoubtedly attracts more and more followers from different movements.

The above-mentioned EP had allowed us to discover two tracks contained in "Moonbathers", nine others are waiting for you to listen to this album of a higher level than "The Human Contradiction". Indeed, we find there the melodic fingering that was a little lacking in the latter, while keeping an often telluric firepower, two guitarists now playing in the combo, the blond Merel Bechtold having joined the team. Charlotte is no longer the only woman, and there are even three of them on the opening track, the brilliant 'Hands Of Gold' where Alissa White-Gluz - Arch Enemy's frontwoman - offers a long and surprising interlude with by her guttural and cavernous voice. Charlotte masters her vocal variations better and better, she magnifies the melodic lines of each tracks that are almost all hits.

Epic and masterful, powerful and melodious, theatrical and cinematographic, heavy and illuminated by pop fireworks, "Moonbathers" is a brilliant melting pot whose listening is to be strongly recommended. Delain holds there his reference album and the fans of the genre, one more opus to classify in their top five of the year. Perfect to celebrate, in this year, the tenth anniversary of the band's first album.
