If "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea" had seemed like a little faux pas in the Kentucky band's career, this new essay of the same name sees the band continue its musical rise without any other false notes. After a reassuring "Magic Mountain" and a return to the roots, "Kentucky" seems to be even more varied, exploring genres with more confidence (hard rock rock hard rock and folk folk folk).

'The Way Of The Future' starts the record with a classic hard rock, modern sounds (in Robertson's voice and guitar effects) but full of grinding distortions. And "In Your Dreams" won't let the grass grow back, just like this "War" full of male hormones and virile choirs that will hurt in concert. And since the combo is not satisfied with straight lines, 'Shakin My Cage', a solid mid tempo, reconnects with southern hard rock sounds while the well named 'Soul Machine' groove maliciously with its female choirs and addictive guitar line. Further on, "Long Ride" comes with an eminently catchy format under its unifying chorus while "Cheaper To Drink Alone", despite its few offbeat percussion sounds, flirts dangerously with a Red Hot Chili Peppers spirit. And whatever the genre approached here (even the dangerous but successful electro rock of "Rescue Me"), the band does it with a hell of a class and a rather stunning naturalness, to the point that it could become the weak point of this album a little too disparate. And we could still blame once again this propensity to overload his albums, forcing the listener to make a selection and leave aside, by overdose, tracks that are nevertheless quite deserving.

In any case, this is one of the most representative albums of the Black Stone Cherry spirit, a kind of tour de piste revealing all the band's talents and costumes, an album representing Kentucky of yesterday and today (sung in the final "The Rambler") in all its beauty. And why not, once the few dangerous turns are over, the band's best album ? only the future will tell us.

Quel album! Par contre, dès 'In Our Dreams', quel festival! Varié, mélodique, doté d'un son irréprochable, tout est admirablement bien pensé sur cet opus.
Hormis un ou deux titres plus dispensables (je pense à Hangman principalement), le groupe fait vraiment très, très fort. Chapeau !
