"How does this band manage to offer us each time an album that oscillates between the superb and the magnificent? That's a Mystery !"

With only six CDs in almost twenty years, we can't call Mystery's production abundant, but maybe that's the secret of a quality album. The excellent live testimony "Tales From The Netherlands", recorded in May 2013 at the famous Boerderij Cultuurpodium in Zoetermeer (Netherlands), released in 2014, had reassured us about the abilities of Michel Saint-Père's new accomplices to restore Mystery's superb melodies. Michel Saint-Père being the author and composer, the soul of the band, the changes of musicians since the last studio album ("The World is a Game" in 2012) left little room for fear of a decline in quality. There was still the question of the vocals because, with a voice as typical as that of Benoit David, the challenge was great for Jean Pageau. Let's say it without waiting, the new vocalist of Mystery ensures more than honorably, providing on this new album a dazzling work.

The album consists of six tracks ranging from 6'10 to 19'30 and as an appetizer, 'Delusion Rain', the title that lends its name to the album, delights us with its ten minutes of progressive rock rich in melody. Michel Saint-Père never seems to be short of inspiration to compose and arrange pieces where harmony is omnipresent. The guitar is obviously in the center of the instrumentation, but without being invasive to the extreme, leaving beautiful spaces for the keyboards. Track after track, we let ourselves be carried away in the magical world of Mystery, a world where the music expresses itself in a cleverly dosed balance between the instruments.

The compositions alternate calm passages and symphonic flights without ever falling into violence or mawkish ballads. 'The Willow Tree', the longest piece of the album, is the very example of intelligent construction. What more can be said about this magnificent work from Quebec, except that the musicians are up to the level of the compositions, efficient without useless technical demonstrations and that with Jean Pageau, Mystery has found its new voice, and what a voice!

As a conclusion I will borrow some words from 'A Song For You', the last track of the album : Just let the music flow through your mind and all will be fine ...
