With "Resolution", the American band Lamb Of God confirmed his talent for groovy thrash, showing a very strong maturity. Since then the singer Randy Blythe has had problems. He had to face the Czech justice who accused him of manslaughter after a concert, the trial being dismissed in 2013 after a period in prison. This event is evoked in this new album, "VII Sturm Und Drang".
Far from living on his achievements, Lamb Of God drives the nail in and shows that despite 6 albums, he is far from having said it all. Already, he throws us some terrifying missiles of efficiency in a groovy and incisive thrash style. 'Still Echoes', 'Footprints', 'Anthropoid' and the fierce 'Delusion Pandemic' show a band in great shape, still rising in power on 'Erase This'. The track is a future classic with a fat vocal, guitars becoming melodic, technical and full of that typical groove, especially in the solo.
Next to these obvious pieces, there are little nuggets that prove that the band knows how to renew himself. With '512', Randy looks back on his time in prison. He makes it a poignant song, often more spoken than sung, which ruthlessly rise in power. The atmosphere is icy with a haunting, gripping tone and strong melodies. We find another great track with 'Overlord' where Randy sings in a clear voice and comes close to heavy rock like Alice in Chains with a crazy talent. Very melancholic, this track is a pure success enhanced by a joyful break.
The band called in a few guests: Chino Moreno from the Deftones illuminates with his pure and very emotional voice an 'Embers' with a very thrash base and Greg Puciato, the singer of The Dillinger Escape Plan, brings on 'Torches' all his class to this powerful and inventive track, giving this record a beautiful conclusion.
"VII Strum Und Drang" is at once powerful, luminous and full of variety. Beyond the genre, Lamb Of God is a major actor of the world metal scene and with this album, not far from being his best vintage, he proves it with an insolent ease. - Official website
