Incredible! Good old Michael Monroe is definitely unbreakable. Because with this "Blackout States", he offers us no less than his ninth solo studio album, which is as much as with Hanoï Rock, the band of his debut that brought him fame.
After more than 35 years of career under the banner of rock'n roll, the Finnish singer is still as dashing as ever. Just listen to 'This Ain't No Love Song', the first track of this new album to see for yourself: wild rhythm, cheerful choirs, unifying choruses... in well under 3 minutes, everything is set.
Accompanied by the faithful Sam Yaffa on bass and Steve Conte (New York Dolls) on guitar, he still plays this solid and catchy rock'n roll that oscillates between pop rock ('Keep You Eye On You') and glam rock ('Walk Away'). All this with unfailing conviction and mastery.
So certainly, no surprise is to be expected from these songs, which all follow the straight line of what the man has always shown. At most, there is a slight tendency to offer pop rock songs, to the detriment of more unbridled tracks. But don't think that "Blackout States" is about variety. If the titles are accessible, they ooze above all passion and fervour. Michael Monroe has definitely dedicated his soul to Rock, and it shows.
If you are already a fan of the man or if you like the rock'n roll that swings between the Rolling Stones, Guns'n Roses and the New York Dolls... This album is for you. Simple, efficient, inhabited... Rock'n roll! - Official website
