Served by a skillfully orchestrated press campaign since the beginning of 2015, the first solo album by Till Lindemann, Rammstein's singer, has been much awaited. In addition, his announced collaboration with Peter Tägtgren has added spice to this project, the latter being in charge of all the music.
"Skills In Pills" has 10 tracks and sees Till singing in English, which is already a surprise, as the singer seemed so reluctant towards Shakespeare's language. Using an imagery that is both offbeat and provocative in a very fun spirit, this record is the perfect cross between Pain and Rammstein, to the point that some tracks are very inspired by it. Thus "Fat" refers to "Sonne" (Rammstein) with its orchestrations and its epic side while the martial "Fish On" could have appeared without concern on one of the first records of the German group. On the other hand, 'Lady Boy' looks strongly at Pain with its unstoppable chorus close to the formidable 'Shut Your Mouth'.
But Lindemann is not just a carbon copy of these two groups. The whole is entertaining, catchy and very dynamic and we let ourselves go to listen to it with pleasure. Because with "Children Of The Sun", "Skills In Pills" or the very delicate "Golden Shower" and "Praise Abort" we discover an intelligent and successful mix of the musical universe of the two crazy people. We discover with the lyrics a very raw universe, the singer having clearly released himself on the sexual side and depraved in his themes.
You shouldn't take this album seriously, but with humour and a second degree. Lindemann and Tägtgren indulge themselves and let loose with delight on this "Skills In Pills", a successful recreation that will make fans of both men wait in a beautiful way by proving that Till Lindemann can exist far from Rammstein. - Official website
