Beyond Twilight's previous album was a real revelation and we could sense the band's huge potential. Jorn Lande, as usual, left and finding his replacement couldn't have been easy.

However, from the very first track, Kelly Sundown Carpenter imposes himself as a worthy successor and would even tend to surpass the master. Jorn is a "demigod" but on The Devil Hall Of Fame, his too forced voice tended to border on breaking up and could become frankly irritating. As for Carpenter's vocals, it is perfectly suited to the music of Beyond Twilight. He knows how to modulate his beautiful voice and adds to the brilliance of the compositions. A great singer, for sure.

The music is of a rare richness and one feels intensely the pleasure of the musicians. The keyboards don't need any artifice and keep most of time their original sound: the piano. This gives a particular touch to the general sound which is clear enough to feel all the subtleties of the arrangements. A few choirs here and there, everything is present but discreet in this album. The guitars are superb but not stifling. No instrument dominates the others. A real group work. Listen to 'Sleeping Beauty' and you will understand that Beyond Twilight do what he wants and composes as it pleases. No constraints therefore for a free and highly creative group.

You will certainly have understood it, Section X is a big slap prog metal and certainly one of the best albums, all styles combined, of the year 2005. But beware! As with any work of this scale, several listenings will be necessary for you to grasp all the subtleties.

OTHER REVIEWS
VOYAGER: Element V (2004)
MELODIC METAL - By combining a notable personality, yet based on recipes that have long been tried and tested, Voyager, a formation of all paradoxes, should seduce you.
CAMEL: Stationary Traveller (1984)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - "Stationary Traveller" is probably a little less musically elaborate than the Camel's records that will follow, but it has that little almost quaint charm that the others don't have.
