"Beardfish has struck a new blow with this new album anchored in the 70s while sounding modern."

Beardfish is now a progressive rock band that enjoys a certain prestige in its musical genre. Since their debut album in 2003 under the influence of Zappa/Gentle Giant to the metal turn of 'The Void' in 2012, the Swedish band has left its mark on the small world of progressive rock with albums that have always had the common point of defending a certain idea of rock strongly inherited from the 70's, and the new album we're talking about here is no exception to this rule, although less hard-rock oriented than 'The Void' was.
+4626-Comfortzone', with its strange title, starts with 'The One Inside', a short introduction that will reveal its beauty in 3 parts. And if you're sensitive to King Crimson, this track (and especially its third part) might well haunt you for a while. In contrast, 'Hold On' has a rougher side but shows how Beardfish masters its subject: crystalline sounds, breaks, bridges, keyboard/guitar crossovers, the whole led by a bass/drums rhythmic always perfectly in place.
But the best is yet to come, 'Comfort Zone' will send you straight back to the good memories of a certain 'Starless' although this is by no means a plagiarism. Just for this song alone, Beardfish should be listened to (at least once) by all 70's progressive rock fans. What is also remarkable with this band is that although we can feel the musical roots quite old, the production also reveals a certain dynamism anchoring this music in a timeless modernity. In short, we can feel that this is 70's rock but produced in our time.
The sequel proves to be just as interesting, although 'King' and 'Daughter/Whore', with their sometimes Iron Maiden-like rhythmics, are a little less appealing despite some exciting moments. Saddened minds will probably retort that Beardfish has become mainstream, easier to access, but what it may have lost in technicality (and this remains to be proven), it has probably gained in melodic power as well. From this point of view, 'Ode to the Rock'n'Roller' is the kind of unstoppable track that a band like Thin Lizzy or Queen could produce at the time: varied, powerful, progressively hard-rock and with a groovy rhythm worthy of Funkadelic. The third part of 'The One Inside' is both beautiful and melancholic, like the memory of a long-lost friend who was finally found.
It's clear that Beardfish has struck another blow with this new album. If you like the band in all its facets, there's little chance of being disappointed and I'd even say it's a very recommendable way to discover its universe, between respect for the elders and dynamism of a youth that knows how to speak to its time. - Official website

Voilà une galette qui fait plaisir, même si elle fait mal. Je m'explique, ce qui me fait commencer par le plus fort : "If We Must Be Apart" !
